San Francisco Fire:
Yamaha / Cubase show off O2r, mLan, G3 at Macworld Expo

According to a posting at Cubase.net, “. . . we were able to record MIDI data into Cubase, then play back the synth's sounds through the O2r mixer outs *using the same cable* with full digital quality! “ If you check back over the last few month’s you’ll see we’ve been harping on this for a while.

There’s apparently a beta ASIO driver for mLAN - giving Cubase the ability to send digital audio as well as MIDI data to and from the desk. With the recent software release of FireWire 2.x (CHECK), up to 100 channels of 24-bit 48kHz audio can be simultaneously coming & going to your DV iMac.

Yamaha intrigued eager Cubase users by connecting a modified CS6x synthesizer directly to the O2r and Cubase simply by plugging in another FireWire cable. It seems there is an OMS driver for mLan, making the FireWire experience familiar to most MacRockerz.

What’s the catch? As always, wait. It will probably be this Summer before Yamaha has product and golden drivers in the hands of the public.
