OK, so way back in the mid-80's, I got me a couple of keyboards (Akai AX-80 and a Roland Alpha-Juno 1...remember either of THOSE?), along with a Roland TR-505 drum machine. I had 'em all hooked via MIDI to my Dr. T's sequencer software running on my suitcase-style Commodore 64.

That was my last experience with electronic music.

So now here it is, 2001, and I'm getting the itch to write music again....clean slate, starting from scratch. Problem is, I've been a graphics guy for the past ten years, and I haven't been keeping up with music technology.
...I would imagine my G4/400 AGP is quite a capable piece of machinery, but I have no idea what kind of software/hardware I might need to get started. I'm looking for free/cheap, since this is just exploration at this point.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!
