Your mate is correct. The only other considerations are the cache memory on iMac is half that of the G4 and of course, the lack of monitor options. I don't know if these are a big enough reasons to go with the G4. The only argument I can think of in favor of the G4 tower is with an added low cost sound card, such as CreativeLabs' SoundBlaster Live! card, you will have a much more flexible home entertainment system. Also, the PowerMac towers are much easier to sevice and upgrade than iMac.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
