Roland UA-100 Digital Audio
Published: 2/1999

What is it? Where is it?
Why is it not usable on an iMac?

The UA-100 looks like it could be poised to be the foremost iMac digital audio solution. That is to say, when the drivers from Apple are golden with the developers. (See related story).

Once all things audio and MIDI are settled with the iMac and newly announced G3, the UA-100 should be a premiere unit for the cute little Mac -- turning the iMac into a really cool music production hub. It doen's have to come in a translucent plastic box, it just has to pipe digital audio and MIDI data to and from your iMac.

MR suspects that the UA-100 will not be the only USB music device available once the Apple drivers are in place. There are very many manufactureers of musical gear who have a much better history supporting the Mac. Not to devalue Roland Corporation's new device.

iMac users: hang tight. Your day is dawning soon. Not only are the things your looking for coming to the iMac, but also on the horizon are new USB CD-R devices and hard drives. MacRocks.com will be following these developments closely and will continue report all that is not vaporware.
